The UP Festival is ROCK FOR CHOP’s major fundraising and awareness building event. Guests experience first hand the power that individuals with Down syndrome have to lift you UP! It will always be a family friendly event featuring local bands, DJ, children’s crafts, games & amusement, food and drink, dancing and an UPlifting sensation!
Surround yourself with the joy and positivity emitted by an individual with Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). If you have never encountered someone with Down syndrome or are admittedly embarrassed to interact with them, that’s OK! The goal of the UP Festival is to break through those awkward moments and show how similar we all are. It is important that even if you do not know anyone with Down syndrome that you still come and experience this event.
Behind the name: At a symposium covering Down syndrome the question was raised, “Why do they call it Down syndrome? People with Down syndrome are always up. They are always smiling, always have a positive outlook on life and always lifting up others’ spirits.” Down syndrome was discovered by Dr. John Langdon Down, so the errrrr, disorder is named after the man who discovered it. Fortunately, The UP Festival is ROCK FOR CHOP’s way of showing the world that individuals with Down syndrome are anything but down.
